Charities That Benefit From Reality Clock Statistic EmblemsBrady Center to Prevent Gun ViolenceAs the largest national, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign and the Brady Center are dedicated to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in their communities. The Brady Campaign and the Brady Center believe that a safer America can be achieved without banning all guns. The Brady Campaign works to enact and enforce sensible gun laws, regulations and public policies through grassroots activism, electing progun control public officials and increasing public awareness of gun violence. The Brady Center works to reform the gun industry and educate the public about gun violence through litigation and grassroots mobilization, and works to enact and enforce sensible regulations to reduce gun violence including regulations governing the gun industry. Childreach Childreach is the U.S. member of Plan, a global, non-profit, child-centered development organization helping needy children and their families in developing countries since 1937. Our grassroots, community-based programs in five interrelated Domains -- Growing Up Healthy, Learning, Livelihood, Habitat and Building Relationships -- are without religious, political or governmental affiliation. We strive to increase understanding and unity among people of different cultures and countries, and to promote the rights and interests of the world’s children. Our vision is of a world in which all children realize their full potential in societies that respect people's rights and dignity. Make-A-Wish Foundation We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. World Hunger Year (WHY) Founded in 1975, WHY is a leader in the fight against hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. WHY is convinced that solutions to hunger and poverty can be found at the grassroots level. WHY advances long-term solutions to hunger and poverty by supporting community-based organizations that empower individuals and build self-reliance, i.e., offering job training, education and after school programs; increasing access to housing and healthcare; providing microcredit and entrepreneurial opportunities; teaching people to grow their own food; and assisting small farmers. WHY connects these organizations to funders, media and legislators. At WHY, we envision a world without hunger and poverty. If we can shift the prevailing viewpoint on why hunger and poverty exist, then we can influence the policymakers and put an end to this human tragedy. WHY sponsors two major fundraisers each year. Hungerthon is WHY’s largest annual public outreach. It is broadcast during Thanksgiving week to more than 6 million people with essential information about hunger and poverty. At the WHY Awards Dinner each spring we honor excellence in grassroots organizations and the media with cash grants. WHY is a not-for-profit registered 501(c)(3) organization founded by radio talk show host and present Executive Director Bill Ayres, and the late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin.
